ProgramsMission & GoalsGerontology Graduate ProgramsAs baby boomers age and medical technology continues to increase life expectancy the aging population will continue to grow. This will foster a greater need for research and quality services across the nation and especially in western North Carolina where more than one-of-five residents is over age 60. This percentage of older residents is greater than for the state as a whole and will continue to increase. Mission: The mission of the Gerontology Programs is to enhance gerontological education, promote applied research and provide outreach services in the region. The focus is on fostering student leadership and promoting applied research and services to enhance the quality of life and encourage social integration and positive aging for older adults in the region. Goals:
