Faculty & Staff
Dr. Massey has a Human Development and Family Studies background. She also has degrees in clinical psychology and early childhood. She is an active consultant, has published several articles, has received several funded grants and is the past president of the North Carolina-association for the education of young children. Prior to joining the WCU faculty in 1979, Dr. Massey taught at Wichita State University in Kansas and the University of South Carolina. At WCU she served as department head of Human Environmental Sciences from 1989 - 2003. Throughout her professional career she has served in various leadership and consulting capacities with local, state, regional and community agencies. She has worked with various age groups across the life span including older adults. She has also traveled abroad and conducted student study tours. Professional interests in Gerontology include: The impact of attitude and social engagement on the aging process; health and fitness during the aging years and anti-aging research. Dr. Massey is a native of Western North Carolina and enjoys traveling, hiking, yoga, writing and other outdoor activities. |
